Guts – Review

Hi everyone!

I have always been a curious reader, but I have also enjoyed reading drama. Today, I am reviewing a book called “Guts” by one of my favourite authors, Raina Telgemeier. This book is a graphic novel based on a true story about Raina going through anxiety, fear, and tummy troubles plus some drama at school.

Raina Telgemeier is the author and illustrator of the graphic novels Smile, Drama, Sisters, Ghosts, and Guts, all #1 New York Times bestsellers. She also personalized and illustrated four graphic novel versions of Ann M. Martin’s Baby Sitter Club novels.

Raina wakes up at night with an awful stomach ache. It’s most likely a bug since her mom has one too. When Raina goes back to school, she has to deal with: friends, not-friends, and classmates who think the entire school year is one long gross out contest. She soon becomes afraid of vomit, becoming sick, and she worries about food, school, and friendships. What will Raina do?

I liked this book because it gives an insight into real-life issues and puberty in a fun way. My favourite part was probably the artwork and the way she tells the story about her childhood.  I would recommend this book to girls going through puberty or girls who are nervous, anxious, and have stomach problems as well. I think most preteen girls would like this book.

Are you going to read this book?

  1. Hi Aadhya,

This book looks so interesting! I think books like this that talk about puberty in a fun way is so important because many people don’t feel comfortable with that topic even though it is very normal and happens to everyone! Have you read other books from this author? Thanks!
