Summer Reading

Hi everyone!

In three months of quarantine, I spent lots of time in online schooling and read more than 300 books! I thought the last thing I would want this summer would be to read books, but I was wrong. I have been glued to every book I read and still crave for more! I have kept a lot of them on hold in the library (website) and canโ€™t wait to read them!! I am planning to finish the whole series of “Wings of Fire” this summer.

I am fascinated by many online sites that provide free resources โ€“ lots of books, movies, webinars and various activities. If you want to read on the internet, here are some resources:

Epic! – There are many books on Epic, including Read to me’s, audiobooks, regular books, and it even includes videos.

Audible – Audible has millions of audiobooks.

Many Books – There are tons of eBooks on Many Books, that are 100% free

Project Gutenberg  – Project Gutenberg is a library of over 60,000 free eBooks!

FVRL (Fraser Valley Regional Library)- You can find books, music, and more on here!

Open Library- They have published more than 130,000 public lists.

Vancouver Public Library – They have tons of books, ebooks, movies, music and magazines across 21 locations in Vancouver. All members get free access to these resources.

Surrey Libraries – There are many other books and movies on the Surrey Libraries Website.

I hope you enjoy exploring these resources!

Have fun reading!!

  1. As you probably know from your Mom, reading is connected to literacy. Not only is it fun, but it helps you develop your vocabulary too! I’m curious to know what book/books would you recommend to other girls your age? Why? What makes a good book?

    1. Books that I would recommend for girls of my age are – The Baby-Sitters Club Series, American Girl Books especially The Care and Keeping of You part 1 and 2, Books by Raina Telegemier (Smile, Sisters, Guts), The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill, I am Malala, Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine, The Mighty Miss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis, Diary of a 13-Year-Old Girl by Bailey Porras, and We are Made of Molecules by Susin Nielsen. Most of these books are relevant to girls my age as they are related to physical and emotional changes and life stories. In my opinion, a good book should have compelling characters, a meaningful story, and a strong opening.
